Gifted and Talented at DGS
At DGS , we provide a part-time teacher to help support instruction for gifted students. Gifted and Talented (GT) Programming at DGS uses a variety of strategies to meet the needs of the gifted learner. Students may participate in individualized lessons, classroom "pull-out" or "push-in" instruction, Enrichment opportunities, and overall support to classroom teachers to help meet the needs of the advanced learner in the classroom.
During pull-out instruction time, small groups of students meet with the GT teacher, Lana von Tersch. Ms. von Tersch provides activities in her "Challenge Class" that help students learn problem-solving skills by thinking creatively and abstractly. Pull-out groups are “fluid,” meaning they will be flexible and change throughout the year based on teacher assessments, students’ needs and individual skills.
DGS does not offer a stand-alone Gifted and Talented Program. Instead, Ms. von Tersch works with teachers to support students within the regular classroom. The district does offer magnet schools for the Highly Gifted and Talented student.
